As an alternative, Chris Witor in the UK have been adapting some Datsun (I
think) rear axles with ball bearing based "splines" for use on Triumph
IRS. Being based on S/H units, their cost is far less than the newly
introduced Hardy Spicer CV units. They fit the 2000 and the Stag. I'm not
sure if it would be possible to make shortened units for the TR6, but you
could ask.

Yes, this is true. The Datsun 1600 splines can be fitted as long as the
yoke is modified.
