Well ... the way Brock Yates tells it in *his* bio of Enzo (a good read, even if, or perhaps *becasue*, it paints a sometimes unflattering but seemingly consistent image of the man) is that Enzo insisted that he be able to run the racing efforts without interference from Detroit. Henry Ford couldn't stomach this and wouldn't agree; Enzo ended the discussions quite curtly. And yes, this was the impetus behind Ford getting seriously into endurance racing and dumping cubic tons of dollars into the program, eventually yielding the all-conquering GT40. |
