I have a [??] Blue '78 Spitfire with the paint code JMA. Based on
previous discussions with other owners of the same paint code
both on and off this list, we decided that JMA represented Pageant Blue.

At the risk of adding more confusion than already exists on this issue,
the John Kipping parts catalogue has a colour table at the back of it.
Here JAE is listed as Pageant, but also so is Tahiti (possibly a
misprint). The 'old' (numeric) paint code 146 is also Tahiti Blue
apparently.
I also have a '78 Spit which has an unusual colour. I posted the
following message a few months ago but nobody replied:
I have owned my red Spitfire 1500 for nearly 7 years (it was first
registered in Coventry, England in Jan 1978). A few years ago I found
out that the original paint colour (Flamenco - CAD on the commission
plate) was not officially used on any Spitfires (it was a BL colour used
on Allegros etc). I spoke to the TSSC Spitfire guru John Thomason
reckons that it could have been some kind of trial car for the North
American market, although the rest of the car is entirely UK spec. Does
anyone know if this colour was officially imported to America, or have
another explanation for this anomoly.
Maybe Triumph was just using up old tins of paint that year :-)
