Well, since an overwhelming number (2) of you have asked for the answer,
here it is. Taking a 1951 Chevy as an example, most bumpers on these
cars featured a three-piece face bar, pinned together. The seams and
pins were concealed under the overriders. Apparently the factory in
California had bigger presses and/or chroming tanks, because those
bumper face bars were one-piece units.
