Hello Scott, 

Now I'm sure you see why the spin-on filter adaptors are a popular conver-
sion.  The filter shell location was not a problem on the Right Hand Drive
cars, but that's no consolation to us in the U.S..

Here's something that worked for me;  since the engine is on rubber mounts,
I got a Big Stick and located it so it wouldn't push against anything soft
or expensive (took some doing), and then just pried on it to move the en-
gine apart from the left frame rail.  If I recall correctly, it only needed
to move less than 1/2" to allow the filter shell to pass.  I only did this
once, however, as I was removing the shell because I had bought the spin-
on adaptor, which makes oil filter changes very easy indeed.

Sometimes the Bigger Hammer theory does work, although this may not have
done my motor mounts any favors.
