Revington TR in th U.K. advertise axles that have a ball and groove
arrangement. According to the ad copy, they use the original TR units and
modify them with the ball/groove setup and larger u-joints. Price (each
axle) is #326.06 VAT inc. plus #50 refundable core charge. Sounds a bit
steep but it does include a rebuilt hub and I know TRF is charging about
$300 just for a rebuilt hub...
FYI, I've never seen one in person, I've never actually used one, etc...
