Tony is correct, you might be amazed what you can find for our beloved LBC's at
you local auto parts store. When I was restoring my TR-6, one of my local
nationwide chain auto parts stores (NAPA, Big A, etc I don't recall off-hand)
was running a special on starters and alternators. I picked up one of each, on
sale for around $50/each with a lifetime replacement warranty and NO core
required for my TR-6. These were genuine LUCAS parts that were rebuilt to a
very high standard. NAPA also sells Borg & Beck clutches for TR-6's as well at
around $30 - $40 less than VB, TRF, MOSS, etc..
Speaking of VB, I just received their latest TR-6 catalog and noticed that
every price was raised 10% - 20% over their last catalog, making them more
expensive that MOSS & TRF on lots of items. Have they sold out to somebody
else or perhaps just getting greedy? I wonder if this is true with their
other catalogs as well?
