Andy, I stand (sit?) corrected.  Went through my manuals and confirmed that
71 actually announced in 70) was the transition year (although one manual
states that beginning of 72 is when the "swing spring" was introduced but I
think it is incorrect). The other changes were deeper non-removable
windscreen frame, larger front anti-roll bar along with the obvious body
styling changes.   All the other literature I  have indicates the MK4 as the
changeover year (sorta makes sense).  The 2 inch  wider rear track and
displacement increase though, wasnt introduced untill the 73 model year-
(why do you think I put a V6 in the 72 ref: 48 whopping hp :-))
