Hi,
After having flushed the cooling system of my 1970 Spitfire Mk3,
exchanged the thermostat and fitted an oil cooler, I found out that
the high reading (usually into the red after about 20 minutes of
driving) of the temperature gauge is an electrical problem. Here
in Denmark you are supposed to drive with the headlights on during
the day too, so it took me a while to find out. Turning the
headlights off (still driving) causes the temp. gauge to return to
the N-position within 15 seconds and vice versa. The fuel gauge is
also affected by this.
What is the most likely cause of this? Can it be the voltage regulator
or is a short in the wiring more likely. I believe the battery and
generator to be OK, since they are both fairly new. If it is the
voltage regulator, can it usually be adjusted/repaired or must it
be exchanged?

PS: I am beginning to realise that owning a Triumph is not just a
