RE:failing spark after 20 or so miles...

Try this simple test next time with some jumper wires.  Find the "B+" and
"ground" terminals on the coil and hook "B+" directly to your battery "B+".
Next hook a jumper wire to the "ground" terminal of the coil, and find a
good clean metal spot you can work with.  Place the High Tension lead of the
coil close to your clean metal spot, and touch the "ground" jumper lead to
the negative terminal of the battery.  When you pull the jumper wire away
from the battery, you should see (and hear) a blue spark jump from the HT
lead, to the metal spot.  Don't see it? bad coil, replace it and drive on.
If you do see it, quickly try to start the car.  If it does not start, then
troubleshoot the distributor (cap, rotor, points, ect) or electronic
ignition module.
