Hi all,
I can't wait to have the car running well for 2 weeks in a row...shouldn't
complain, because the weather was gorgeous here last week: 70's-80's and low
humidity all week. However, on Friday, I noticed a new sound: a chattering
resonating up from my gearshift, that became more noticeable as the day went
on, and a "spinning" sensation from the rear left.
Test drove with husband on Saturday to see if we could further determine
better what the problem might be. Drove short (<1.5 miles) distance and
parked. When the time came to leave (we had been hashing), I put it in
reverse, and probably revved a little harder than absolutly necessary.
Anyway, heard a *bad* sound, and now have a knocking/chattering sound that
appears every 2-3 tire revolutions ( I haven't actually checked the tire
revolutions, but that seems pretty close). Now am sporting a
clunking rear.
After checking some books (basic Chilton's etc.), it appears that it could be
one of the following: U-joint, pinion gear, or wheel bearing. I know this
is tough to diagnose without having the car available to look at, but I'd
appreciate any help.
