Greetings Wordly Scions,

Thanks to all who sent ideas about my recent problem with a
carb with a run-away idle. I'm happy to say the problem seems
to be solved. Those who suggested air leaks sent me in the
right direction.

It turns out that this carb has the mystical oblong [temperature-
compensator] appendage on the side. This was the source of
my problem. According to the manual, this [compensator] meters
a small amount of air into the mixture based on temperature.
Knowing that my problem was temperature related and that
an air leak would cause the high idle, I grew suspicious of this
device. Besides everything else in the carb is in
"like new" condition. I defeated the [compensator] and the carb
works beautifully. The ZS manual doesn't really say what this thing
is for (hot starting?). It says to replace it if it's suspect, and warns
NOT to touch the nyloc adjusting nut.

Not being satisfied by fixing this carb, I got two more errant
ZS carbs that had been sitting on the shelf back in service.
I must have been on a roll. :-)

Now if I could just get started on that pair of SUs.......

Yours Gratefully,
