Travis, you don't need my help, you need better friends! ;-)

Seriously, I guess I don't understand or share their concern. Granted, a
Spitfire is not the best car for snow or Arctic cold, and it is not likely
to last forever if run on salted, snowy roads consistently (unless it's
given lots of baths and other care. Also, it's not nearly as comfortable
on a long trip as would be a Lexus, Cadillac or BMW. 

That said, though, there is no particular reason why a solid Spitfire in
good mechanical shape can't be almost as reliable as (and a lot more fun
than) a modern car. The price sounds to be within reason as well.

I've taken the liberty of copying my reply to the Triumphs mailing list, 
a group of hundreds of dedicated, if slightly crazed, Triumph owners such 
as myself (and now you) who offer both moral support and an incredible 
wealth of knowledge about all Triumphs. I'm sure any number of them will 
reinforce what I'm telling you here.
