Between 45 and 55 mph it shimmys so much I expect the already cracked
steering wheel to come off in my hands.
I say, me too. My TR2 would do great at speeds under 45, start shimmying at
around 50, peak at 63 and smooth back out at 70. Spent a lot of time going 70.
What rubber that was in the bushing area was shot, 2 wheels were warped, and
wheel balance was questionable. Rebushed it myself, takes a day or a
leisurely weekend, and played with the wheels on a hydralic press until they
were resonably true. Remounted wheels, balanced, and Clarence was a running
fool. If you rebush yourself, use a real spring compressor, I was in high
school when I rebushed the TR2 and did a crazy exercise with a million and a
half hose clamps. Just proves that if there's a will there's a way, and
something about how the ignorant are somehow protected, at least once......
If never replaced, your bushings are shot, as probably most of the rubber on
your car. At least replace the rubber gaiters on the ball joints, tie rod
ends and steering boots, if you have them. Good luck.
