Bruce,
 Some water pumps had a plug for a grease zerk, others did not. Later 
runs of pumps uses rubber seals and sealed double bearings in place of 
the older bronze bushing. Not at all surprising if you can find no place 
for a fitting.
 Some got it, some don't.
