Just out of curiosity, where is reverse on a TR4? This may or may
not be a dangerous condition depending on where it is, and where
it is on any other cars you may have.

I nearly had an accident this morning relating to precisely this
problem: I just went through a hassle involving jumpstarting my
Accord from my pickup, following to a garage (I don't maintain
the Honda, too complicated), then coming home and hopping in the
Vitesse to drive to work.

So after spending the morning wrestling two cars that have first
gear in the upper left position, the first time I took off from a
light I slapped the Vitesse into reverse, which is in that
position and let off the clutch. If the person behind me hadn't
been further back than is typical at a traffic light I'd have
whacked her.

If you trade off between a lot of cars, as I do, having a good
reverse lockout is important. You don't think you'll screw up,
you figure you're bright enough to know which car you're driving.
Then you get pressured or distracted, and wham. I know a guy
who lost half the teeth off his GT-6 reverse this way.
