Yes, It's what the American Government did to OUR cars for crash testing
rules, ala' MGB & Midget with big black bloody ugly things strapped on
them front and rear. Admitedly the Spitfires' big black bloody ugly
things were NO WHERE near as bad as the MG's big black bloody ugly
things. Also they were only fitted to quite late Spit's(I think).
Luckily we (UK and Europe and just about everywhere else) didn't have to
suffer these things :-). There is a company that imports US triumphs for
spares, etc. They usually drive around in one at the TSSC Stafford show
if you want to see one.
Hope I haven't upset anyone by describing these things as 'big black
and bloody ugly', but that is how they appear to me. Although as I have
said, they DEFINATELY look better than the THINGS attached to MG's.
