I just bought a '72 TR6. I've owned a '73 for 14 years (it's now
my main parts car!). A few questions about the '72, since I have
nothing except the '73 to compare it to:

1. The '73 has a rear bumper with the 2cm? diameteter bar (overrider?)
that goes from one side to the other. The '72 does not. I recently
got a picture of a '72 for sale (a Web site) and it DID have the bar.
Which is the 'right' bumper for the '72? BTW: The '73 also has 3 holes
(one at either end, one in the center) of the front bumper, but I've
never heard of a TR6 with a front bar???

2. The '73 has the vinyl/foam filled things at the top edge of each door
(where's my TRF catalog, now that I need to know the names of these 'things'?)
The '72 has just body color painted metal; I don't think there was ever any
thing here. (It's a bear to close the doors without anything to grasp!). Should
the '72 have these?

3. THE LOW FREQUENCY HUMMMMMMM coming from the rear area, only under load,
not coasting. It sort of Rumbles/Hums for 6 seconds, then quiets down for
2-3 secs before starting again, and again..(at 60mph). I read part of the
Spit rear noise thread about rear bearings - Would this apply to my $$$
IRS's? I've put 40K+ on the '73 and didn't hear anything like this, and
the '72 has 21K on the odometer!

4. Frame preservation - My '73 was very rusty when I got it, so I did
nothing to prevent further rusting (BIG mistake!) The '72 has been
garaged and I have not found any rust underneath. It was a weekend
only car, now I plan to make it a daily driver. In my area, 12Km from
the Atlantic Ocean, should I : get a 'pro' to undercoat, inside and
out? Try to do it myself? (With 'Waxoil?) Do nothing???? Any advice
here????

5. I'll be in London at the end of April. If I need parts, is there
a place nearby to get them thats reasonable in price and accessable
from the Tube (no car!).

Thanks in advance,

Rick Olson
