Keith writes that a friend is looking for an annulus gear for his TR4A
overdrive.

Keith-
Sorry to hear the weather is still "winter-like" in your neck
of the woods. BUT, be sure to tell your buddy Vic that he MUST
keep the annulus and planetary gears together as a set.
Do not replace one or the other. If you look closely at the
planetary gears, they each will have a little "o" punched
into the edge of each gear (these marks should all be aligned to the same
relative spot on the annulus gear when installed, the
same spot on the outer edge is the easiest to see). Not only is the planetary
gearset mated to the annulus gear, but the individual planetary gears are
selectively fit to each other so that the diameter of the planetary set
remains stable when rotating inside the annulus gear. Finally, although you
could probably get away with the old one, the sun gear should probably be
considered as part of the "set". As you can see, the factory went to great
lengths to mate these parts into an assembly, and replacing just one portion
of this delicate triumvirate, could have devastating
repercussions.
