Hi Sean,
Petrol injection as it was known was first offered on the home market
TR5 (US got carbs and the name TR250) as far as I know PI was offered
through the entire model span of the TR6 but never in the US because
of emissions and cost. The Lucas Petrol Injection systems weak point
is the fuel pump which was adapted from a low pressure pump to put out
a higher pressure. The Lucas pumps are unreliable but there is a
retrofit available using a very good Bosch pump.
The PI cars are listed as putting out 155 HP but i have read that
140-142 is closer to the truth for early cars and 127-130 for later
TR6's. There are a couple TR5's in the US, one nice one here in So.
Cal. but i don't know of any TR6 PI. I think the system could be
fitted to a US car without much trouble and the parts are available.
The stumbling block would be your states emission regs if any.
Cheers
Kurt Oblinger

Subject: Fuel injected TR's?

I was reading a book on collector cars the other day. It said that Euro-spec
TR6's had fuel injection, while U.S.-spec cars got carbs, largely due to the
increased cost of FI. They also quoted 140hp from the FI systems.
While posts about carb problems and tuning are common, I don't remember posts
about FI on TR6's. Did this author have his facts wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Sean Johnson
