Not sure, but when you remove the lower diff housing bolt, will the oil drain
out?  I'm just wondering if the bolt hole goes through to the interior of the
housing, or if is has a dead end tapped hole.

Always seems to lead around these bolts.  Thought that might be an additional
reason  why.
