Well, I had a good response to this problem. It appears that there is really no solution to it, except: 1/ Oiling the threads to reduce friction, 2/ Using a slim shafted wrench. An old English mechanic I know here in Colorado has never found a suitable way to tighten these nuts down, and this guy specializes in repairing and restoring Little British Cars.
