Yeah you're right - the MK4 is (just about) the same block as a MK3 - I was
referring to the 'finished article' - it can be often be more economic to
exchange the entire engine (they're a doddle to fit) than pay someone to strip
the thing down & rebuild it (unless you know-a-man-who-can)
I know what you mean with insurence companies - my Mk3 had a 'Triumphtune'
extractor
manifold & twin exhausts (K&N's etc) and it flew (and sounded l-o-u-d) I had to
convince Footman James that it wasn't a major enhancement as the 'agreement'
didn't apply...uugh
