PDWA options

The seals on the plunger inside mine are leaking (thanks for your help Brian
Borgstede).  TRF and Moss don't have the seals but I can order a complete new
assembly from Moss for $158, which I would hate to have to do.
Has anyone found a suitable replacement for these cylindrical seals on the
plunger inside the PDWA?

What bad things would happen if I replace it with 2 couplings (isolating the
front and rear circuits).
