Do not use Mobil 1 or other multi grade engine oil. If you want to use Mobil
synthetic, try their synthetic *gear* oil, a 80W/90 GL-4 that I've been using
myself for a long, long time.

The synthetic gear oil acts like winter oil when cold, summer oil
when warm. At least you'll notice that the gear change is quicker in
freezing conditions.
FYI: Whether a 5W/50 engine oil is thinner than a straight 30 depends
on the temperature. When cold, it is thinner, when hot, it is thicker.
