Do TR4s have some kind of tensioner to help push the choke?

Since the Vitesse choke cable was unavailable I ordered a
TR4 cable and cut it to length. Trouble is, this is a
multistrand cable with lots of bend, where the original
was solid with little flex.

This would appear to be a pull cable, not a push-pull cable.
The exposed end bends rather than close the choke fully.

It would be easy to attach a spring to help the choke close,
and I was wondering if that's how the TR4 works.

Replies appreciated.
