Gasket Paper?

Hi Again.

I remember reading somewhere once that gaskets were (or are) made from a
rather absorbant/absorb-ive paper, like really heavy postal wrap.  Is this
anywhere near the truth?  ie), can I make replacement gaskets from this if I
can't get a new replacement one?
