Subject: [Tigers] Battery manifold

Hello

?

After some research into the battery manifold of M1 and Mk1A Tigers, I?ve f=
ound the following:

In the ?Parts list Supplement for the Sunbeam 260?, I found that:
The Rootes part number for the manifold breather tube and 6 caps is 1224844
On the same line, at the end of the ?Description? is a Lucas number, 542855=
82

The Lucas Equipment and Service Parts manual for 1966 # CCE901/66 lists the=
? battery but not the manifold.

In the old Lucas Bible, ?Lucas Equipment and Spare Parts? 1945-1960?, there=
is a listing for a battery Vent Plug, rubber,? part number 24179522, but i=
ts top is different than the plugs used on the Tiger manifold, as well as b=
eing rubber not plastic. Note that ?The Lucas Bible? ends in 1960 and cover=
s late 40?s through 1960. Rubber was used far more frequently in that perio=
d.

?Ron Fraser, known to all on this list-serve, contacted the Rootes Heritage=
Group and asked if they had a drawing of the assembly and they reported to=
him they had no information on this.

?Further, Joe Chiappetta, an extremely knowledgeable Sunbeam guy for many y=
ears, has researched this part (or similar) in different British makes, esp=
ecially ones with fuel tanks in the same closed environment as a Tiger, and=
 hasn?t found anything.

The part is a Lucas, but I?ll bet it was installed at the Jensen plant as t=
hey were building the Tiger.
Strange, though, that no other vehicles (it appears) had this arrangement w=
ith these very special
?arrow-headed plugs.

In closing, it seems that the only hope for obtaining an assembly would be =
a clever person with a 3D printer

and a sample cap.

?

Thoughts?

Not an exact reproduction, but I thought my effort to replicate breather t=
ube was close. I have since added original terminal lugs. Battery central c=
arried the repro Lucas battery, but I think it is no longer available.
