I would guess that one could do some careful parts-bin engineering and end =
up with a rear drum setup that weighed significantly less than any equally =
effective rear disc setup. Datsun 240Z's came with aluminum rear drums (sti=
ll with the cast iron liner, of course) and it would not be a huge effort t=
o adapt the backplates so that all that stuff would bolt right on. You woul=
d probably even get automatic adjusters in the bargain. But rear discs have=
that certain je ne sais quoi...=20

I've often wondered about the "need" to go to rear discs on the Tiger, as t=
he front brakes are asked to do pretty much all the work on our cars. I've =
never had issues with the rear drums in very hard use (with decent high tem=
p linings). The fronts did require some work ;)=20
