Cylinder 5 is at the front and 8 back toward the firewall.=20
Please remember- if you updated your camshaft to the modern era firing order=
this results in a different firing sequence. It also results in the origina=
l plug wire lengths to the distributor cap different and the lengths will no=
t be optimum.=20
When I restored my Griffith with the 347 striker, I went to Taylor Vertex an=
d bought a set of high temp wires and specified 12 extra inches on all white=
s. I had them install the spark plug bolts and I custom fit the other end wh=
ile making sure the wires were optimally routed. Then I terminated the wires=
myself at the distributor cap.=20

t adventure for me. I won't relate all the details of the adventure but the=
re was a question that arose that I hope someone can answer for me. The sho=
p manual contains a drawing that shows the correct routing for the plug wire=
s. On each side of the engine the wires go through a couple of wire guides t=
hat provide the correct spacing and routing for the wires. On the right sid=
e the wires are routed in the order 1-2-3-4. On the left side the order is 7=
-5-6-8. The text in the manual explains that the reason for this order is t=
o provide separation between the number 7 and 8 wires. Seven and 8 are adja=
cent in the firing order and routing their wires in close parallel as they w=
ould be if the routing order were the expected 5-6-7-8, might lead to induce=
d current between 7 and 8 resulting in misfire. I routed my wires according=
to the advice of the shop manual. My question is, was the original (factor=
y) order 7-5-6-8 or was it 5-6-7-8?
