The great gasket question...

If making your own gaskets lots of people ( including our suplliers) remake
what were paper gaskets in rubber.

A good example are the trunk (boot) hinge gaskets and the door handle
gaskets. These are originally a paper type gasket material.

The modern repros are a molded rubber with a edge hob/ridge to locate the
part. The better quality rubbers will have a cross hatch on the back of the
rubber gasket to provide grip.. But you will note that with the moderm
rubbers the gaskets often form a fat black like around the handles and
hinges.. They also often move and you see them skewed under the part.

The original gaskets located much better and were not visible and less
likely to move.

So if making gaskets dont always assume a rubber gasket is a better option.
