Russ
Have you checked the shifter forks alignment? Workshop =
Manual, section E, Page 4.
=20
Yes, the transmission can be removed without taking the engine out but =
still an involve procedure.
=20
I had help with all this at a friend=E2=80=99s garage.
Removed bonnet
Drained coolant
Removed radiator
Remove shifter
Remove the drive shaft
Disconnect clutch slave
Supported and move engine forward with engine hoist=E2=80=93 this =
requires disconnecting all the normal parts to allow this
Remove tranny bolts
Remove transmission
Put engine back in position
Repeat to install transmission
=20
I may have missed some steps and order but you get the idea.
I believe others have stated that you can just pull the transmission out =
and that may very well be but I thought it was too tight for that.

Members--I inadvertently put synthetic fluid in my toploader (66 tiger) =
and now it won't go into third or fourth easily as before. I have =
renewed with the correct fluid for the third time now with several =
hundred miles to no avail. Any other flushes recommended or do I have =
the tranny rebuilt? Another question is can the tranny be taken out =
without the engine being removed??? I believe the synchros being brass =
have absorbed the slick stuff to disallow them stopping very fast. =
Hoping for some wise advise as you all have come thru for me in the past =
very nicely. Thanking in advance. rtscolgan@yahoo.com =
