Joe,
The thickness of the cam thrust plate varied over the years. I think Edel=
brock is specifying the thrust plate with the correct thickness for their t=
iming gear.
Make sure you check the end play on the camshaft assembly with the thrust p=
late and timing gear you are planning to use.
I remove the oil gallery plug when I use a thrust plate with the ear and oi=
l groove.

Here is my best guess.
Your right they did not give you any instructions for this situation.
=20
The attached picture is what?s available today ? NPD has them.
=20
See that slot off to the side on that plate ? it is for extra lubrication ?=
it extends over an oil passage in the block.
Please note that oil passage on your block should be plugged ? therefore th=
at plug needs to be removed before this thrust plate is installed.
=20
Personally I think I would return that timing set because they were useless=
with their instructions and Tech support.
=20
I normally buy a Cloyes set.

Hi,
=20
I bought an Edelbrock 7820 timing chain set to go on my 260 and the instruc=
tions say to remove the original cam thrust plate and spacer and replace it=
with Ford thrust plate # C9OZ-6269-A. These instructions do not explain =
WHY the plate needs to be replaced. I called Edelbrock and the guy I spoke=
to was useless. I pointed out that the Ford part number they listed appea=
rs to be obsolete and his response was to send me a link to Ebay where an o=
ld one is for sale. I've found some other vendors that have replacements f=
or this number. Does anybody know why a different thrust plate would be re=
quired for the Edelbrock timing chain set?
=20
Thanks,
Joe Brown
