I've noticed a number of you have indicated that the small piece under the steering column is plastic. I just stuck a magnet on mine, it is steel with 2 threaded studs to secure it to the dash. I don't know if plastic was used for this part but you might want to put a magnet on it to confirm plastic or steel. I think somone was creative and made a dress up piece- I would like a duplicate to my dash- a THOUGHT perhaps.
