If you still have the original 7 inch sealed beams in your Tiger then
you should replace them with the modern upgrade with halogen bulbs. The
originals were designated as type 6024 and were superseded by H6024
which is probably all that you will find if you look for a replacement
sealed beam. They are worth it, without doubt, and will produce more
light and are a plug-in replacement. They are rated at about 60 watts
on high beam (i.e. 5 amps per bulb). The next step up is to headlamps
with replaceable bulbs rather than the sealed beams which are replaced
as a unit (lamp and bulb). You can find any number of headlamps that
will fit right in without modification. You will then need to find the
bulbs which are designated "h4/9003" and can be found with various
ratings. If you stick to the 60 Watt rating, you will not need to do
anything to your wiring, assuming it is in good condition. These bulbs
offer better light distribution which will add to the overall seeing but
are not any brighter than the H6024's since they are still halogens.
Headlamp technology has progressed quite a bit in the last 50 years.
