Like most things from the 60's that were electro-mechanical, it is
better to convert to full solid state when possible. Fuel pumps are a
very good example. After enduring many years of issues with the
original SU pump, I converted to a solid state pump. End of problem.
The points have to carry too much current to allow them to endure for
very long. Using a solid state circuit to do the switching greatly
improves the lifetime. It's been so long I don't remember who made it,
but it looks pretty near the same on the outside and it even sounds the
same, for the purists. The big Healeys (and some Jags, IIRC) used the
same pump, so check those sources as well. I can't think of any good
reason to not to make the change.
