Okay good advice.  I'm wondering now if the brakes might have  somehow got 
jammed up on the car's ride on a flatbed yesterday.  I had the  hand brake on 
and even thought the car was tied down it definitely did a little  moving and 
put a strain on the brakes.  The thing is before I took  everything apart I 
couldn't move the brake adjuster in either direction.   After removing the drum 
and shoes the adjuster moved just fine.
