The only thing I think WD-40 is good for is to cool a drill bit when
drilling or tool when machining on my lathe.

I was having problems with my VDO clock. Someone suggested I should go
to a grandfather clock repair place and buy some of their little bottles
of oil. So, I did. The clock started right up and hasn't stopped yet.
This was years ago. That said, I do have to admit that I did learn what
that oil was when I bought it: whale oil! So, choose how politically
incorrect you want to be. I didn't even know you could buy it.
