Steve,
I run the Master Cylinder off a Datsun 710 (note: 3/4" - some are larger).
The 510, 610 and 710 as well as the pick up trucks of that time all have
vertically oriented bolt holes. Most had a booster at the back and need a
modified rod to make work. I created my rod from a late 60's Volvo 122.
Finding the metric to British adapter is difficult and I wound up adapting
the appropriate ends and flares to a common brake line.
I looked at the Mazda cylinder, but the larger size and side outlets turned
me away. I owned an Audi 5000 with the mentioned hydro cylinder and also
considered that. However, it seemed like it would run right into the brace
from the firewall to the wheel well. Plus, you would have to mount the pump.
By the way, the "Pentocin" Audi fluid was about $18 a liter 10 years ago
(probably $30 today). The Audi set up was prone to leak (high pressure) and
the fluid once it had time to "air out" was like tree sap.
I have heard that certain Ford Rangers had an applicable Master Cylinder
too, but don't know any more about it.
Tom
