Tim,

I would take a longer 3/8" UNF bolt and see how deep in can be screwed in.
It's very likely the threads are at least 3/4" deep. If not, you can grind
1/8" off of your 3/4" long grade 8 bolts. My machinist always used to tell
me that a bolt attained full strength when treaded in a distance at least
equal to its diameter. Of course, that presupposes good threads.
