This is interesting that it generates so much discussion.

I was fascinated by Tigers originally due to the Shelby connection,
because from a young age the Cobra was the paramount dream car. .... So
I originally purchased my Tiger because it was the only way I could
afford to own a piece of such history, similar to the Cobra. I have
downloaded and purchased a lot of vintage racing photos that show big
and small block Cobras rounding the corner at famous tracks right along
side the Hollywood car or other Tigers, GT 350's, Jags and Vettes. I
purchased my Tiger out of a desire to have a stake in that which was
represented in those photos, but that later evolved into something more.
I now know that Carroll didn't necessarily have a lot to due with the
car's birth, probably more from Ken Miles if I recall. My fascination
with Tigers has evolved into a fascination with all cars in the era that
where European or Euro-influenced and also powered by American iron.
Detomaso Pantera's, Cobra's, Lotus-ford, Cosworth, and several others.

I would never try to change anyone's mind about the purist vs. nonpurist
argument, mainly because I haven't really been a Tiger owner long enough
to make such a case, and also because I know I would never succeed in
changing anyone's mind. Nor do I want to. I find often that the owners
in favor of originality seem to be less enthusiastic of modified cars,
but an owner with a modified car, like me, usually has the full respect
for a Tiger owner who has a number matching restored car.

I am not a purist. I have always like the drivability and look of every
classic that I can remember when it had oversized tires, loud exhaust,
and a tuned motor with more horsepower than it had any business with.
People like Doan Spencer took Stock Tigers and race prepped them to be
just that, and it fascinates me. I do want to commend the purists
though, for the discipline and attention to detail of such cars has my
utmost respect. I find its also much more time consuming and potentially
expensive to restore a car perfectly. Hats off to you guys for having
the patience.
