Go to a well ventilated place, put a discardable rag under the carpet
and padding, and then douse the affected area with brake cleaner. Push
the carpet/padding onto the rag to try to get the goop to transfer to
the rag. Wear face protection - sometimes the spray comes back at you.
Try this on a small area first. I don't think that brake cleaner (or
most carb cleaners) will affect the carpet but you don't want to take a
chance. If you do use carb cleaner make sure that it doesn't contain
lubricants.
