Sunbeamers:
I'm getting some shaking/bumping through the steering wheel at higher
speeds (above 65 mph). This is a relatively new happening. I had the
wheels (Panasports) balanced yesterday and I tightened up the under hood
steering column bracket that was a little loose, but there was no real
improvement, if any.
The odd part of it is the vibration is not steady. It seems to vibrate
in a rythymic pattern. When I accelerate up to 65 and beyond it starts
vibrating and over three or four seconds vibrates more, then lessens and
starts over again with the same pattern.
I can't see anything obvious broken on the front suspension but then I
don't really know what I'd be looking for.
By way of possible clues, I do have a leaky steering rack boot and old
Spax adjustable shocks. I did have to loosen the steering rack a while
back but re-torqued the bolts to factory specs after that. The car
steers perfectly straight down the road. The driver's front side shock
may have an issue with it's adjustment feature, and the shocks "squeak"
a bit when I bounce the car up and down but they don't leak as far as I
can tell.
Has anyone had a fairly sudden issue like this come up with their car
and what should I look for or suspect?
Thanks!
