<< anyone know how many teeth are on the gear in the transmission so I can
figure what gear I need?>>
Hi Cliff,
T-5's can have various speedometer gear teeth. To eliminate all the errors
associated with estimating tire rolling radius, tire growth etc., the most
accurate way to figure out what you need its to drive your car at your normal
driving speed on a marked highway for about 10 miles.
multiply 16 (your present number of teeth) X Indicated miles / 10 actual
miles = Required number of teeth.
For instance, 16 teeth X 11 miles / 10 miles = 17.6 teeth or 18 teeth
You can also replace the gear in the transmission with one with less teeth,
but that requires the removal of the tail shaft housing.
If your odometer is now accurate but the speedometer isn't, you can
reposition the needle so it will be accurate at your normal driving speed.
