If you're using the OEM daisy-chain wiring to do your grounds then make
sure that the daisy-chain wire is connected to the chassis somewhere...
Otherwise you're going to just sorta-kinda ground them through a network
of lightbulbs and how the gauges work will potentially change depending
on whether you've got the lights on or not.
An ohmmeter or test light won't tell you whether or not the ground wires
are connected properly, because if you do have the instrument lighting
installed, then the DC resistance of all the filaments in parallel is
very low. You gotta go under there and check it. Another way to make
sure is to pull the instrument lights before you check the gauge
grounds.
