Speedo Cable Question

I'm having a new speedo cable housing made and had to send the old one 
to the shop for dimensions, etc.

Can I drive the Tiger a bit (three or four miles) without the speedo 
cable or housing plugged into the transmission? Or will trans fluid leak 
out in large amounts while I'm moving?
