Since I am missing the United this weekend due to technical reasons, I've
been wandering through the garage looking at various Tiger debris. The
remains of a 260 is hiding under a workbench, quietly sobbing its little
gudgeon pins out ever since I replaced it with a well-massaged 5-bolt 289.
I, like many Tiger owners out there, do not wish to revert back to the
anemic performance of a relatively stock engine after tasting the fruit of
it's hypo-tuned bigger brother. So what to do with it? Can't bore it very
big, can't put big-valve heads on for better flow, not a whole lot of
potential. UNLESS you can stroke it. And here's my question: has anybody
dared experiment with this block by installing a longer-throw crank and the
requisite rods and pistons? A half inch more stroke and .030 over pistons
would get the engine close to 310 cubes, not a beast certainly but more
interesting than stoke.
