In my Mk1A (stock Generator) the ammeter goes in series with the fat brown wire
that runs behind the air cleaner over to the regulator box. I don't have the
schematics right in front of me, but I think Mk 2's are similar. I can see
both charging and discharging current, but this bypasses the starter current.
For my voltmeter, I harvested a Smiths unit out of an old Triumph, and mounted
it where the clock was supposed to be. I may have had to paint the pointer
orange to match, but that was easy.
