Oh, yeah, I've been a member of VIR Club for about 2 years. It was the
first track country club. It's actually more expensive than doing a
track weekend with NASA, BMW Club, Porsche Club, or the like, but it
works for me because we have an open-wheel class, and none of the other
groups do. It costs $3,000 per year, and we get 16 track days per
year. If you make all of them, that translates to almost $200 per day,
vs. about $150 per day for a club event.
The roll bar on my Tiger is too low for VIR rules - it would have to be
so high that the top wouldn't close, but I've snuck by a couple of times.
Anybody on the list who wants to try out VIR, you're welcome to come as
my guest. As a guest, you have to drive behind a pace car, but it's a
spirited run. In this class, you can drive without a roll bar or any
previous experience at all. I'm an instructor, so would be glad to ride
around with you to show you the line, etc. VIR is possibly the
second-nicest track in the country, so it's well worthwhile.
Barber, in Birmingham, AL is the nicest track in the country now. I
just sold my company to another that is located only a couple of miles
from Barber. Do you see my thought processes here?
