The air rushing from the rear opening to the front would (theoretically)
lower the ambient pressure at the carburetor, which isn't a good thing, but
at least the air would be at the outside ambient temperature. If you want a
front opening (for looks) and a rear opening for functionality, then block
the front one off a couple of inches into the ducting, and you'll have the
best of both worlds.
